  • Sweet Snack Ideas for Your Halloween Party -- No Baking Required!

While Halloween is considered the ultimate kids' holiday, adults can still get to experience their fair share of fun by having a party. After helping put together the kids' costumes and taking them trick-or-treating, it's time for you to come out and play.

The best part of hosting a Halloween party is that there is no limit to what you can do. It's all up to you, but there is a lot of planning to do. While picking out a costume and decorating your home to give it a Halloween theme are important, if you're like most people, a lot of your attention will be focused on impressing your guests with a creative assortment of tasty treats.

However, with all there is to do between the kids and the party, you may feel as though you won't have time for everything. Don't worry! You can still host a fabulous party and provide guests with appetizing snacks.

At James Candy, we have an endless assortment of sweets that are a perfect addition to any party, in both full-sized and bite-sized varieties. To help you narrow down the selection, provided below are a few sweets you really can't go wrong with.

Macaroons: While you could go with cookies, why not go with chewy macaroons instead? With delicate flavors and an assortment of colors, macaroons make a wonderful party treat. You can choose from different flavors including almond, coconut and chocolate chip or opt for small French macaroons for a bit of class.

Chocolate covered pretzels: Chocolate covered pretzels are a classic party treat and your guests are sure to wipe the plate clean. You can pick simple pretzels covered in milk chocolate or the more elaborate variety topped off with Jimmies or sprinkled with peanut butter.

Nuts: No, we don't mean just plain peanuts or pecans. When we say nuts, we mean nuts in a brittle to give them a salty sweet, delicious taste. We have a variety for you to choose from including Almond Butter Crunch, Peanut Brittle, and Fralinger's Famous Peanut Butter Chews.

In addition to our selection of sweets, we make snack shopping easy, as you can place your order online and we can deliver it to you, all ready to go! All you need to do is set your treats on the table (don't forget to place them on some appropriately creepy serving ware) and let your guests dig in and enjoy. Be the haunting hit of your party this year with these tasty and simple snack ideas!

  • Have your Cake and Eat it Too: Sweets Diabetics can Enjoy!

We're only human. In a world where we're constantly surrounded by the temptation of sweet treats, it can be difficult when you want to say no, and even more so when you have to say no. This is a challenge diabetics face on a day-to-day basis, and sometimes it just doesn't seem fair! But just because you suffer from diabetes, or have some other need to turn down sugar, doesn't mean you can't indulge every now and then. If you've got a sweet tooth that just won't quit, try satisfying it with one of these alternate desserts without feeling like you're cheating!

Get Mileage out of Sugar-Free Pudding

There are tons of flavors of sugar-free pudding and jell-o that can satisfy any craving. Single-serving cups are a convenient dessert when you've got to pack a lunch or dinner for work or school. Layering your favorite flavor of sugar-free pudding with some crushed-up graham crackers and a dollop of sugar-free whipped topping makes for a delicious dessert parfait. You can even buy a popsicle tray, fill it with some pudding and a popsicle stick, and put it in the freezer for a refreshing treat on a hot day!

    Enjoy Traditional-Style Sugar-Free Candy

Many candy companies are learning to cater to the market of sugar-free eaters by making sugar-free candy to complement their inventory of traditional candy. Enjoy a sugar-free box of chocolates as a dessert on your favorite holiday, snack on a sugar-free salt water taffy when down the shore, or break up your favorite treat in some frozen yogurt for a yummy snack!

    Nature's Candy

There are many fruits out there that taste sweet without packing as much sugar as a can of soda or a slice of pie. Mix together some Greek yogurt and vanilla extract for a heavenly dip to complement a bowl of grapes, strawberries, blueberries, and melons on a hot day, or simply drizzle them with sugar-free chocolate syrup for a treat that tastes like you're cheating!

  • Do AC… on a Budget: Affordable Day Trip Attractions

Atlantic City is one of South Jersey's most coveted tourist hotspots, and locals enjoy it just as much. From the towering, brightly-lit casinos to the crashing waves and bustling boardwalk, there's much to do and see. Don't be intimidated by the grandiose appearance of the Taj Mahal or the price tags inside the shops at the Pier, though – some people do visit this city ready to drop a lot of cash, but there's plenty to do on a day trip to AC for a small price tag, or even free! Our city is also more family friendly than you might initially think, too! Round up the kids and take a fun but surprisingly affordable trek to the Jersey shore.

Everybody's favorite free attraction, of course, is the beach. Catch some shade under the pier or stretch out in the sunshine on the sand. AC is one of the few beaches in South Jersey that remains free and open to the public, so you might as well take advantage of it while you're there! Afterwards, grab some lunch at the Rainforest Café. It's one of the more reasonably priced restaurants on the boardwalk and kids love it because of the interactive experience. It "thunderstorms" inside every half hour, during which the ceiling mimics a cloudy sky with lightning and thunder, and the replica creatures around the restaurant react. Plus, there's a fish tank filled with enormous tropical fish and plenty of kid-friendly food!

After lunch, head over to the James Candy factory tour for a truly sweet experience. Learn about the invention of salt water taffy, see the creation of chocolate and your other favorite confections, and enjoy some sweet treats…all for fewer than five dollars per person! The tours end August 31st, so you've got until the end of the summer to soak up this boardwalk fun.

If you're still in the mood for a tour, be sure to check out the Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum on the boardwalk. For just $15.99 for adults and $9.99 for kids, you can see some unbelievable exhibits, strange pieces of art, and real weird artifacts from all around the world. It's definitely the weirdest (and most interesting) family fun you'll find on the boardwalk.

Finish off the night with a movie on the beach! Movies begin at dusk on Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays all summer long and play every family's favorite titles like Madagascar 3, Hotel Transylvania, and more. No shirt or shoes are required for this movie night, and at the low, low price of FREE, it's cheaper than a trip to the theater! See the full schedule here, and enjoy your AC day trip!
